Admissions RequirementsSenior School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent, with 5 passes at credit level, taken at no more than 2 sittings, and either University Matriculation Examination UTME or (for direct entry) General Certificate of Education (GCE) ‘A’ level in 3 subjects or equivalent. For a Master’s degree, candidates must possess either a First or Second Class Honours Degree of the University of Calabar or an equivalent degree from another recognised University with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.75 on 4 grading point system or 3.44 on 5 grading point system. Candidate for Ph.D degree shall be required to hold good Master’s degree in the relevant field of the University of Calabar or any recognised University

He was first elected as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District in 2015, lost in the 2019 senatorial elections and won in the 2023 elections. He also served as minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 up till 2022 when he resigned to seek re-election into the Nigerian senate. He had previously served as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2007 to 2015.
