    Mehbooba Mufti is an Indian politician of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who served as the last Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir as a State, from 4 April 2016 to 19 June 2018. After the revocation of the special status (autonomy) of the state in August 2019, Mufti was detained without any charges at first and later under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act. She was released only in October 2020, after the Supreme Court of India quizzed the government about the length of her detention.

    Ghulam Nabi Azad is an Indian politician of the Indian National Congress who was the 7th chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2005 to 2008 and was the Minister of Health and Family Welfare. He served as the Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha until 2021 February. He has served as the Parliamentary Affairs Minister of India in the government of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh until 27 October 2005, when he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He also led the party successfully in the 2002 Assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir.

    Karan Singh is an Indian politician, philanthropist and poet. He belongs to the Jamwal Dogra Dynasty, and is the son of the late Maharaja Hari Singh of Jammu and Kashmir and was born in Cannes, France. From 1947 he worked closely, as a teenager, with Jawaharlal Nehru, and Sardar Patel during the transition of the Republic of India, from Dominion of India and in 1967 became the youngest ever union cabinet minister in the government of Indira Gandhi. He was the Prince regent of Jammu and Kashmir until 1952. Following which at age 21 years old, Karan Singh served as the first Head of State of Jammu and Kashmir from 1952 to 1965. In the 2012 Indian Presidential Election, Indian National Congress had nominated him as the Presidential Candidate which was then changed to Vice President Hamid Ansari.

    Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was a politician from the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. He started in the wing of the National Conference led by G. M. Sadiq, which later merged into the Indian National Congress, eventually founding his own regional party People's Democratic Party (PDP). He served twice as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, from November 2002 to November 2005 and again from March 2015 to January 2016. He was also Minister of Tourism in Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet. He was also Home Minister of India from December 1989 to November 1990. The PDP continues to be a political force in Jammu and Kashmir, currently led by his daughter Mehbooba Mufti.
