Seyyed Mohammad-Hossein Behjat Tabrizi, known by his pen name Shahriar, was an Iranian poet who composed works in both Azerbaijani and Persian. His most important work, Heydar Babaya Salam, is considered to be the pinnacle of Azerbaijani literature which gained great popularity in the Turkic world and was translated to more than 30 languages.

Mehdi Bakeri was an Iranian Azeri military officer and prominent Iranian military figure in the Iran–Iraq War. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tabriz and participated in the Iranian Revolution against the Shah. Following the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq War, he joined to the IRGC and was killed in action in Operation Badr during the war.
