Chen Nien-chin is a Taiwanese middleweight boxer. In 2016, she won a bronze medal at the world championships, but was eliminated in her first bout at the Rio Olympics. She is a native of Hualien County. Chen is of Austronesian Taiwanese descent, with one parent being Amis and the other being Bunun. Chen was diagnosed with stage II Hodgkin lymphoma cancer in 2019, recovered in 2020 after intensive chemotherapy. After recovery, she competed in 2020 and 2024 Olympics in Welterweight boxing.

Yu Hsiu Ku or Gu Yuxiu was a Chinese-American electrical engineer, musician, novelist, poet, and politician. A polymathic academic, he was one of the first Chinese people to earn a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in 1928, and became a leader in higher education in China until the fall of the Republic of China in 1949. Afterwards, he worked for many years as a professor of electrical engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.

Mu-ming Poo is a Chinese neuroscientist. He is the Paul Licht Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley and the Founding Director of the Shanghai-based Institute of Neuroscience (ION) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He was awarded the 2016 Gruber Prize in Neuroscience for his pioneering work on synaptic plasticity. At ION, Poo led a team of scientists that produced the world's first truly cloned primates, a pair of crab-eating macaques called Zhongzhong and Huahua in 2017, using somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT).
